The Louisiana Chapter of the National Easter Seal Society assist persons with disabilities and their families in finding and making effective use of resources which will be helpful to them in developing their abilities and living purposeful lives. Programs sponsored by Easter Seals Louisiana include which are offered in Acadiana include: CAMPERSHIP – which provides the payment of summer camp tuition and transportation cost for children and young adults with disabilities who would otherwise not be able to attend. EQUIPMENT LOAN – provides the loan of necessary equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, commodes, etc. to individuals with disabilities statewide who are unable to obtain equipment through other resources or during the interim period until they are able to obtain their own.INFORMATION, REFERRAL AND FOLLOW-UP – assists individuals with disabilities and their families in locating and using federal, state and community resources. POST POLIO SUPPORT NETWORK – provides polio survivors with support and acts as an information and resource network to answer questions regarding polio’s “late effects.” SCOLIOSIS SCREENING – with the assistance of school nurses, 5th-8th graders throughout Louisiana are screened for the possible presence of scoliosis, and abnormal curvature of the spine. SPECIFIC ASSISTANCE – helps persons with needs that cannot be met through existing public and/or private resources by purchasing services and products, such as orthopedic shoes, medications, blood glucose monitors, brace repairs and bathtub benches.
