The Thensted Outreach Center strives to provide Home Health and Supportive services to economically disadvantaged residents of Grand Coteau, Sunset and Bellevue thru the following programs: THRIFT STORE – provides clothes, furniture and household items for people in need. EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY – Clients must complete an intake form including the reason(s) for their need. CAREER EDUCATION PROGRAM (CEP) – helps high school students learn first-hand about career possibilities with on-the-job training. COUNSELING SERVICES – A licensed professional counselor provides counseling on three levels: individual, group and family. Anger Management workshops for teenagers are also offered. AFTER SCHOOL TUTORIAL PROGRAM – for grades K through 12 receive after-school assistance with homework including reading, writing, math and critical thinking skills. Hours are from 3:15-4:40pm Monday-Friday. SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM – for children ages 6-17 offers a wide variety of academic and cultural recreational activities including arts and crafts, reading , writing, math, swimming, field trips and special classes in teaching conflict resolution and building self-esteem. The program runs for six weeks, five days a week from 9:00am – 3:00pm. SUB BANK AND BUDGETING PROGRAM – teaches people how to budget. Problems are discussed and a plan of action drawn up for making choices toward greater independence. If necessary, financial assistance is given with the understanding that each person will continue to work with the Center and eventually repay the debt. EMPOWERING SENIORS – includes bi-monthly education in spiritual, emotional, physical social and intellectual areas. HOME VISITS – home visits to the elderly and shut-ins to assess needs. TRASH and TREASURES STORE – open Monday and Friday a variety of household items for sale.
