This agency provides in-home services to the homebound including: INFORMATION and ASSISTANCE: about available resources provided through this and other agencies. Referrals are made for clients and are followed up to assure receipt of services. This service assures clients that the total needs of the person are met. HOME DELIVERED MEALS: provided to homebound persons who are truly in need of service The drivers relay any additional services which the homebound clients may need in Abbeville, Erath, Delcambre, Kaplan, Gueydan, Forked Island, Cow Island, Maurice and Indian Bayou Areas. $1.00 per meal donation is requested. CONGREGATE MEALS: There are 5 Congregate Meal Sites in Vermilion Parish. They are located in Abbeville, Kaplan, Delcambre, Erath and Gueydan. $1.00 per meal donation is requested. HOMEMAKING: Homemaker services are provided to the elderly to render light housekeeping duties. The degree of need establishes a priority. The greatest need is served first. $2.00 per hour donation is requested. FAMILY CARE GIVERS SUPPORT PROGRAM: The support program is to help relieve caregivers from the constant intensive care of a loved one for a short period of time. The target population will be caregivers who cannot take care of normal business due to having to care for someone 60 years of age or older and the caregiver. Services provided under this program are: in-home respite, personal care attendant, sitter service, public education, information and assistance. $5.00 per hour donation is requested. PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANT: Through our outreach efforts, the needs of a person are assessed and a plan of care is formulated to meet those needs. A trained staff member also makes regular checks to ensure that the client’s needs are being met. UTILITY ASSISTANCE: provided to low income elders in desperate need of utility assistance. Individuals must meet the qualification of the program. TELEPHONING: Routine daily telephone visits are made to frain elderly individuals Monday-Friday to insure that the are okay. TRANSPORTATION: The COA transportation is provided by the Vermilion Public Transit System which is a part of the Louisiana Transit System. Our Transit System operates a fleet of 9 handicapped accessible vehicles. For a small fee the transit system provides rides anywhere within a 30-mile radius of the parish. Also available through COA are senior centers, outreach services, medical alert response system, senior employment training and placement, and income tax preparation.
