Msgr. Sigur Service Center provides assistance in the following areas: clothing, food bags, rental assistance, medication, referrals, and payment of utilities (gas and light). Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds are available for help with rent and utility payments. Eligibility is based on need. There is no specific income eligibility, but there must be a proven unexpected emergency to have occurred to cause a financial hardship on families and individuals. Proof must be provided: emergency doctor or medicine bills, unexpected repairs to automobiles or major household appliances, etc. A Picture ID, proof of income and a current utility bill must be provided for any and all services. SHARE THE LIGHT ASSISTANCE: City of Lafayette Utilities and LUS Customers Only. Interviews are conducted by appointment only on Monday – Friday, 8:30-3; RENTAL ASSISTANCE: For people who reside in the City Limits of Lafayette and inside Lafayette Parish. Interviews are conducted by appointment only Monday-Friday, 8:30-3, written notice from landlord and amount of monthly rent required. LIGHTS ON ASSISTANCE: Slemco Customers Only. Interviews are conducted by appointment only on Monday-Friday, 8:30-3. SENIOR FOOD BAGS: Food bags provided on a daily basis for senior citizens 60 years of age or older with a weekly food card at St. Joseph’s Diner (232-8434); registration required for qualified applicants. All other clients needing assistance for any other service must call for an appointment.
