PROJECT CARE (utility assistance for the elderly age 60 and above) up to $50 toward payment of gas/electricity(only)..very limited resources available. One time assistance, no exceptions. HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE: utility payments made payable to vendors on behalf of eligible participants. Participants are eligible to apply every 12 months upon available resources. WEATHERIZATION: weatherizes the homes of low-income residents to reduce the high costs of cooling and heating purposes. Low-income elderly homeowners get first priority. Activities include weather-stripping, caulking, replacing rotten weatherboards, roof-repairing, ceiling insulation, replacement of worn doors. TRANSPORTATION: portal-to-portal; public non-emergency medical and human services agencies access transportation is provided to low-income elderly and general public of the parish, Monday thru Friday. Transportation sites include doctors, dentists, mental health, education (Project Independence), University Medical Center (Lafayette, LA) dialysis center, grocery shopping (occasional) and vocational Rehabilitation service/training resources. SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM: senior companions…involved in valuable service through the Senior Corps…are part of the Corporation for National Services’ efforts to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in community-based service. Senior Companions provide person-to-person non-medical support to help another stay independent. Join their ranks if you are age 60 or over, meet income requirements and are willing to serve 20 hours per week. Senior Companions will receive a tax-free stipend, pre-service orientation and monthly training. You will also receive reimbursement assistance for transportation and meals while on duty, an annual physical exam, accident and liability insurance during your service. TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION PROGRAM: provides comprehensive awareness and education to teenagers (ages 8-19) and their parents/families on problems associated with teen pregnancies. PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Applications are completed to assist customers with prescriptions through pharmaceutical companies. MEDICAID OF LOUISIANA CERTIFIED ENROLLMENT CENTER: applications for Medicaid taken for women, children, senior citizens and disabled. Call the office (337) 948-3651 to schedule an interview. HUD COUNSELING: provides housing counseling services to families with homes financed by HUD Guaranteed loans in areas of default mortgage, Pre and Post home purchasing, home maintenance and budget. FEMA: assistance with past due (gas, light, water or rent/mortgage). Payments made to vendors on behalf of eligible participants.
EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE: nutritious food items are provided to the disadvantaged of the parish in emergency cases. NEEDY FAMILY FOOD DISTRIBUTION: provides nutritious food in the form of surplus commodities to needy families throughout St. Landry Parish on a first-come-first served basis. EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROGRAM: provide assistance with prescriptions and doctors visits. LEGAL SERVICE COUNSELING/REFERRAL SERVICES: civil counseling referral to applicants (i.e. human services, general welfare benefits, job counseling and referrals) JOB CORPS: referral, follow-up counseling services. INFORMATION and REFERRAL: referral and coordination with other Human Services Agencies within the parish. Follow-up and home visit services are also provided.
