Services include:
ENERGY ASSISTANCE: help with payment of utilities for people age 60 or older;
HOME DELIVERED MEALS: for the homebound age 60 or older (small donation is requested for this service);
MEAL SITE: center serves lunch for age 60 or older (small donation is requested for this service);
HOMEMAKER SERVICES: assistance with light housekeeping, errands, light meal preparation for age 60 or older (small donation is requested for this service);
FOOD FOR SENIORS: food distribution once a month of various can goods, juices, etc. for age 60 or older; groceries are to be picked up at sites in the town nearest client’s home;
COMMODITIES: given every 3 months to those who qualify; offered to 60 years or older and also those who qualify (based on income);
TRANSPORTATION: transportation to doctor, shopping and other services for age 60 or older (a donation is usually collected for this service);
SENIOR ACTIVITIES: bingo, pool, ceramics, movie and popcorn offered to age 60 or older;
TELEPHONING: once a month for shut-ins age 60 or older, calls are made to the home for a friendly check to see if they are doing all right;
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE: in the form of applications for medical assistance (no age limit).
Additional services include:respite care for Medicaid waiver participants, ombudsman program for nursing home residents, blood pressure monitoring throughout the parish. The Council on Aging is also an enrollment center for Medicaid, with an appointment.
